THE opening of a Burger King restaurant and drive-thru in Halbeath has come a step closer with job vacancies being advertised.

The outlet is looking for crew members "with fire in their belly" who want to commit to the cause of "go Whopper or go home!"

Full training is being offered for the posts for people who like putting smiles on others' faces and working at pace.

Despite the jobs being advertised, Burger King are still to confirm an opening date or how many jobs will be created.

A spokesperson for Burger King UK said: "Burger King UK are regularly evaluating opportunities to bring our great-tasting products to more customers in new locations.

"We can confirm that there will be a new restaurant opening at this location later in the year, however, we do not have further information at this time. We will keep you informed when more information becomes available."

Planning permission for the premises at Halbeath Main Street was given last October. A Costa Coffee is also being created at the site, along with three other retail units, one of which is believed to be a Greggs.

Councillors approved the proposals which had received 16 objections and one letter of support with concerns including noise, litter, anti-social behaviour, vandalism, road safety and queuing traffic, as well as land ownership and the principle of development.

Objectors said there were already 17 fast-food venues and a 24-hour supermarket within a mile of the site while others said there was no demand for the retail units and more fast-food joints could have a detrimental impact on health and obesity levels.
