A DRIVER made a fortunate escape in Dunfermline town centre as they avoided a horror blaze.

A Stagecoach van caught fire on Carnegie Drive with video footage capturing roaring flames coming from the vehicle.

A video posted on Facebook shows the van well alight before the driver's window was completely blown out by the gushing flames.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured in the incident which took place at around 7.40pm on Friday evening. It is understood that the driver could smell burning and immediately parked the vehicle at the side of the busy Dunfermline road next to the Kingsgate Centre and to Carnegie Retail Park.

Stagecoach confirmed that the driver did not sustain any injuries and an investigation into the incident is now being carried out.

A spokesperson for Stagecoach East Scotland said: “We can confirm there was an incident on Friday 23rd July involving one of our support vehicles.

"No-one was injured and a full investigation is underway."

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were asked for comment.
