A GUEST at a Crossford hotel decided to drive to a local supermarket after a drinking session in the bar.

Benjamin Barnaby-Gallear, who was working in the area at time, was arrested by police when he returned to the hotel.

Barnaby-Gallear, 29, of Mowbray Street, Derby, appeared at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

He admitted that on June 23, in Main Street, Crossford, he drove a car after consuming excess alcohol.

His reading was 58 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, the limit being 22 microgrammes.

Depute fiscal Mat Piskorz said Barnaby-Gallear was at the Adamson Hotel consuming alcohol.

He then left the bar at around 10pm, was seen getting into his car and driving off.

Police were contacted and he was eventually found by officers back at the hotel, smelling of alcohol and having just driven back.

Defence solicitor Roshni Joshi said: “He had been working in the area as a drainage engineer but lost that employment after he was arrested.

“He decided to drive to the supermarket and knows it was a very stupid decision to make,” she added.

Sheriff Alastair Brown imposed a fine of £420 and a driving ban of 16 months.
