A DUNFERMLINE deputy manager of a care home has been crowned Registered Nurse of the Year for North Division in the Barchester Care Awards 2021 and is through to the national round of judging.

Sharon Batchelor, at Canmore Lodge, beat hundreds of other nominees with more than 2,900 nominations received from homes and hospitals across the UK.

The Barchester Care Awards celebrate staff who go the extra mile for the benefit of the 12,000 residents living in the company’s 248 care homes and private hospitals across the country.

Sharon said: “Canmore Lodge is the best home I have ever worked in. The whole team are fantastic to work with and everyone supports each other.

"My team of nurses allow me to do my job well and be there for all of our residents.”

As the winner for the North, Sharon is through to the national finals in which the overall winner is decided. She will join winners from across the UK at a special awards event in October to celebrate their outstanding achievements and discover if they have won a national award.

There was more success for Canmore Lodge as Stephen Forrest claimed Maintenance Champion for North Division in the awards, and he will also go to the national final.

Stephen said: “I feel honoured to be even considered and represent Canmore Lodge. The home is a fantastic place to work alongside a fantastic team.”

Senior general manager Jane Aitken said: “This is an amazing achievement and the whole home is supporting Sharon and Stephen. We are so proud of them."
