STUDENTS from the Allana Brown School of Highland Dancing donned their tartan to entertain the residents of a Dunfermline care home on Saturday.

Usually the girls would be competing in events like the Inverkeithing Highland Games or showing off their skills at the Edinburgh Military Tattoo, but with the pandemic wrecking many plans they enjoyed a fling at Headwell House instead.

The seven girls – Connie Urquhart, Annelise Caines, Aiyana McGonigal, Erin Humphries, Brooke McAlonie, Ava Thomas and Anne Cui – delighted the residents and brought some sunshine into the care home.

Allana explained: "Normally during the summer months the dancers enjoy touring the length and breadth of the country competing at Highland Games as well as entertaining around the various care homes and galas etc.

"However the majority or indeed all of the Highland Games to date have been cancelled due to Covid restrictions.

"The dancers at this time would be gearing up to take part in Inverkeithing Highland Games on the run up to the world championships at the Cowal gathering.

"The senior students were distraught to learn for yet another year the Edinburgh Military Tattoo has been cancelled, another month long spell entertaining visitors from around the globe, an experience they love."

She added: "Although this has been quite a major blow to their ongoing progress, they have kept up their practice firstly taking lessons on Zoom and now face to face tuition.

"The dancers are preparing for competitions starting again as well as preparing for their dance exams under the auspices of the SDTA (Scottish Dance Teachers' Alliance)."

The Dunfermline dance school has been running for more than 40 years and has nurtured champions from four-year-old beginners to professional adults.

Students perform and compete all over the world and classes take place in Dunfermline High School dance studio from 5pm on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.
