DUNFERMLINE'S League Cup tie at Rangers next month has been brought forward to be beamed live on TV.

Peter Grant's Pars qualified for the last 16 of the competition as one of three best runners-up in the Group stages, finishing behind section winners St Mirren in Group H.

They were one of the unseeded teams in the draw for the first knockout round and, in the first tie out of the hat, were paired with Steven Gerrard's Scottish champions at Ibrox.

The tie was originally scheduled for Saturday August 14, but will now be played a day earlier after being picked by tournament sponsors, Premier Sports, for live broadcast.

The game will be Athletic's first visit to Govan since 2017 when, at the same stage of this competition, they were thumped 6-0 having been four goals down at half-time.

Dunfermline's last success at Rangers came in a 4-3 league win in 1972, when Jim Leishman scored the winning goal, and have only beaten them once in the League Cup in 17 attempts - a 1-0 home victory in 1951.

Both clubs reached the quarter-finals of last season's competition, with Athletic losing out on penalties to eventual winners St Johnstone after a 1-1 draw at East End, whilst the Light Blues suffered a last-gasp 3-2 defeat at St Mirren.

The revised schedule for the last 16 is: Friday August 13: Rangers v Pars (7.30pm, live on Premier Sports).

Saturday August 14: Ayr United v Dundee United (3pm).

Dundee v Motherwell (3pm).

Livingston v St Mirren (3pm).

Sunday August 15: Raith Rovers v Aberdeen (Noon, live on Premier Sports).

Arbroath v St Johnstone (2pm).

Hibernian v Kilmarnock (2pm).

Celtic v Heart of Midlothian (3pm, live on Premier Sports).
