A NEW charging station for electric cars could soon be on its way to West Fife.

Plans have been submitted for eight charging points at Dalgety Bay Gateway with an application now in to Fife Council.

Set to be installed in the car park off Ridge Way, opposite the Subway, Dominos and Greggs outlets, it would be “among the first of its kind in Scotland”. The EV (electric vehicle) charging station will provide a parking bay consisting of rapid-charging facilities for up to eight vehicles, with four pre-cast islands.

If approved, a new electrical substation and associated low voltage switchboard will be built too. The application has been submitted by RSK Environment Ltd on behalf of Fastned UK Ltd. In a statement RSK said: “The proposed development is for eight EV charging points and associated ancillary development.

“The charging infrastructure has been designed to allow EVs to receive a rapid charge (approximately 15-20 minutes) whilst visiting the commerical units or as a short-term stop before continuing their onward journey.

“The charging islands will at the centre of the eight dedicated parking bays with two EV rapid charge units per island, providing eight EV charging spaces, capable of being deployed simultaneously."

Fastned UK Ltd is the UK subsidiary of the Netherlands based Fastned BV, a European developer and operator of EV rapid-charging stations.

Fastned currently operates in excess of 137 multi-charger rapid-charging stations in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany.

“The proposed development at this application site is based on the designs and technology used in these existing facilities and, together with another similar development in Hamilton, will be among the first of its kind in Scotland.”
