NIKOLAY TODOROV is confident Partick Thistle will know they're in for a tough time this weekend despite Dunfermline 'not matching expectations' in their league opener.

The Bulgarian striker got his Championship tally up and running in the 2-2 draw at Greenock Morton, firing the Pars level early in the second half before Kevin O'Hara put them in front.

A freak, deflected cross into their net from Lewis McGrattan prevented Peter Grant's side making a winning start at Cappielow, which the 24-year-old summer signing from Inverness Caledonian Thistle admitted "felt like a loss" and took the shine off his personal milestone.

But, speaking to Press Sport, Todorov is keen take his frustrations out on a Jags side that Athletic defeated 4-2 at Firhill last month in the Premier Sports Cup, and who will run out to an East End crowd of up to 2,000.

"Yes, it felt like a loss to be fair in the changing room because there were certain expectations from us and we did not match them," he said.

"You saw that we created chances, we scored and the manager and everyone expects when you score two away goals to win the game. We will look at where we made the mistakes and improve because it is not good enough to start the league like this.

"There are loads of positives as well; let's not be too negative about it. We expected to win, but obviously we didn't, so we will dust ourselves down and work hard to improve.

"We will work hard this week, look where we can improve and focus on where we can hurt the other team. We have already beaten them once in the cup, they are beatable but it is going to be definitely a hard game.

"They are coming to our ground so it is going to be hard for them and I know that they know it."

After a difficult opening period in which Gary Oliver's penalty had the hosts deservedly ahead, Dunfermline, to their credit, improved significantly after the break, but Todorov admitted the work in turning the game on its head made the concession of the equaliser late on tougher to take.

"Yes, I'm not saying that we played bad but, at the end of the day, it is about points," he continued.

"That is why maybe it hurt more than it should have because we had worked hard to get on top. To lose a goal like this, I know maybe it wasn’t a great goal, but it is still in the back of our net.

"We manage to get on top in the second half, we were scoring goals, enjoying being on top but we need to look and see how we can improve, help the midfielders and then midfielders to help the defenders.

"We will look at improving that and hopefully we can be even better than we were on Saturday."

A major plus for the new-look Pars so far has been the form of Todorov, O'Hara and Craig Wighton up front, who between them have scored 11 goals in five competitive matches so far.

"First (league) game, first (league) goal. I am really happy, it is what I’m here for and I hope there are many more to come," Todorov added.

"We get on well off the pitch and on the pitch and around the training ground those two have been brilliant. I am really enjoying playing alongside them."
