A CARNOCK kid stole the show when he shared the stage with Dunfermline musicians, the Cognac Twins, at the weekend.

Young Charlie Cooper, 10, rocked up and performed during the act’s break from performing at a birthday party in the Carnock Inn.

And the youngster bowled everyone over with his renditions of AC/DC’s Highway to Hell and The Beatles’ Day Tripper.

After posting a thank you for letting him play, the Cognac Twins took to their Facebook page to tell Charlie he was a “very talented guitarist who is definitely bound for stardom” and offered him one of their t-shirts and a signed poster.

Charlie’s mum Michelle said her son was delighted with the praise and making it through his first gig.

“I work in the Carnock Inn and, knowing Charlie plays the guitar, my boss said he could get up and do a couple of songs when the Cognac Twins were having their interval,” she explained.

“He was nervous as it was the first time he has played in front of anyone apart from in front of his class at school.

“When he had done it, he was so chuffed with himself.

“After the party, the Cognac Twins were saying he is amazing and ‘I cannot believe he is only 10’. They were really encouraging of him.”

The performance was all the more impressive given that Carnock Primary pupil Charlie only started playing around 18 months ago and has taught himself during lockdown.

“He is all self taught and goes on YouTube and finds different tutorials.

“He finds a song he likes and he searches on youtube for a tutorial to learn how to play it,” added Michelle.

“We are hoping to get him some lessons but over the past year, everything has stopped and there haven’t been face to face lessons.

“He is a rock music fan. He is AC/DC crazy.

“We both like rock music and AC/DC are his dad Rod’s all time favourite band but he will also be listening to music and come to us and say ‘Have you heard this song before?’.

“He doesn’t listen to the sort of music you would expect for a 10-year-old.

“Being a musician is definitely his plan. Even when doing projects at school or presentations, it is always about music. When it was world of work week, you have to think about a job you want to do and his was a musician.”
