PARS Boss Peter Grant expressed his frustration at his side's "lethargic" performance which saw them heavily defeated at the hands of Partick Thistle in their first home league match of the season on Saturday.

Two goals from corners deflated the Pars, a danger which Grant said he had warned his players of before kick off.

"The goals we lose, set plays have been a bit of bug bear – we have suffered from them before," he said. "We spoke about it prior to the match and I think that's the disappointing part. We knew what was going to happen.

"One of our players doesn't do his job well and it costs us dearly. Then it gets you on the back foot. Then the next one I think Denis was going to do better, it has travelled a long distance and the goal keeper says no but then again the defender does the wrong job, he gets caught up in the muddle and you end up losing your player so you lose individual goals.

"They hadn't started well and when you lose goals on top of that, it is very very difficult against a very good side. Great credit to Thistle. They played the game really well and thoroughly deserved the victory.

"There was nothing in the game and we hadn't started well but there was still nothing in the game. We were a bit slow in our passing and once we do that it allows the opposition to get near you. "The biggest thing for us was we weren't aggressive enough in anything we done, we weren't competitive enough. It is alright having good footballers but you have to be able to go and when the opposition have the ball, you have to go and take it off them. Fair play to Thistle – they done that and we didn't do it well enough."

With 2,000 fans back in East End Park – as well as the first visit from the new majority shareholders – Grant was disappointed that they were failed to put on a show for the crowd and the German contingent.

"The players are well aware that the new investors are here and it is fantastic to see them because we know they have had a difficult time getting over here. Obviously we would have loved to give them something else to enjoy but we are delighted to see them," he said.

"It is a big part of the club moving forward but the bottom line is we know that we make everyone happy with results on the pitch. It doesn't matter what you do, it is all about how the team play and how the team win games of football so we are not stupid at that.

"We have to get the performances right on the pitch. Last week, as I say, the first half was disappointed. Today the full game, part of the second half was okay, just ok. The two league performances have not been up to the standard we showed in the cup so that has been disappointing.

"I have got a proud group of boys who are desperate to do well and gutted that they have let their fans down because I think that's the most important thing. We want to get supporters back in and coming and enjoying their football.

"We all go back miserable tonight and there's no getting away from that. It wasn't a good enough performance and we have to get back on the horse, that's football."

Midfielder Graham Dorrans expressed his disappointment at his side's performance, saying they "got what we deserved" from the game.

"I think we were poor from start to finish," he said. "We need to bounce back quickly because it doesn't get any easier in the next couple of weeks. They were first to every ball, they wanted it more than us. It is disappointing from the very first whistle.

"I know how football works and sometimes you get games like this but they don't become any easier. Everyone in there is thoroughly disappointed and we need to get in there and put things right. "The boys didn't come out to play like that and settle like that. Everybody is disappointed. We know that's not acceptable what we just put on there for ninety minutes so everyone has a point to prove going forward."

Thistle boss Ian McCall was delighted to take away the three points.

"We played really well and the game plan worked really well and really it could have been more," he said. "We had more chances. There were two penalties, one of them was an absolute definite penalty. I think when Tiffoney is running at such pace it just takes a shove to put him down but Dunfermline will be up there at the end of the season so it was a great result for us.

"I remember coming here when I had just taken over with the old team and we got beat 5-1 and had a player sent off. It is a different set of boys now. It is very early but it is nice to get a good result.

"You come to East End Park and win three nil, it is just a great weekend for everyone at Firhill."
