A BIG-hearted Dalgety Bay youngster has raised £200 for a charity which recently delivered her beloved new pup.

Lara Hills, 11, and her family welcomed pup Heidi into their Markfield Road home after she was brought to West Fife by the Moreni Romanian Rescue Dog Shelter.

Keen to raise funds – and awareness – of the charity, Lara organised a bric-a-brac sale outside her house and was delighted with the amount raised.

Mum Deborah said her daughter was keen to give something back.

"We had quite a few things that we wanted to get rid of and Lara decided it would be nice to raise some money for the charity to help some other dogs," she explained.

"We just did it on our street. We set up some wallpapering tables and it became quite a thing. It was just my daughter then some other children got involved and they were chatting about the dogs and people were stopping.

"It wasn't just about raising money for them but also about raising awareness of the charity.

"They recently had about 40 puppies who had been dumped. Some of them had some sad stories so they really are fighting against the tide."

Deborah said little Heidi was settling in nicely after arriving with them nearly two weeks ago.

"We had wanted a dog for a very long time and we had had quite a few friends who had rescue dogs from Romanian shelters," she said.

"We waited and it took a four day trip from Romania with a lot of other dogs. She is very nervous as a lot of rescue dogs are. Even in a week though, Heidi is playing with the kids and she is eating well. She is doing so much.

"We don't really know what type she is - we think she might have a bit of Jack Russell in her."
