WALKING though a Dalgety Bay underpass could take you under the sea thanks to the creative talents of Fife artists.

Work is expected to start on the underpass on Moray Way North in the near future and Fife Council have managed to secure the talented Celie Byrne and Donna Forrester to lead the project, which will inject some colour into the dull-looking area.

The artists are currently exploring the idea of an ‘under the sea’ theme to transform the corridor but are open to ideas from the local community.

The project will be helped by kids from primary schools and also clubs in the area.

Inverkeithing and Dalgety bay councillor David Barratt said: “The idea of revamping the underpass has been on and off for a number of years now.

“Essentially, at the beginning of the summer, it became apparent that the Scottish Government were allocating money for summer youth projects. I asked if there was a way we could create artwork there while also involving young people.

“We got the funds and we’ve not been able to get it sorted in time for the holidays but it worked for when the schools go back.

“I’m looking forward to see it develop!

Within the ‘under the sea’ theme, there would be scope for the ramps to be used to include plants and bees on the approach to the ‘underwater’ tunnel and will hopefully include some of the other suggestions of local landmarks and history.

Celie and Donna have created some much-loved pieces across Fife, such as murals of boxer Connor Law and Paul Lowe, the Black Watch soldier killed in Iraq in 2004.

Cllr Barratt added: “Even if you don’t know their names, many people will recognise Celie and Donna’s art.

“It’s well worth getting professional artists in and we’re very honoured to have them.

“The area feels a bit rundown so it will give it a lift. Art could be extended to the shops in the future.

“But we’ll take one step at a time and hopefully it’s the start of things to come.”
