DALGETY BAY teenager Andrew Thomson had double the run at Sunday's inaugural Dalgety Bay 3K and 10K runs on Sunday.

The 17-year-old Inverkeithing High School head boy and Fife Athletics Club member won both events, which were organised by the Forth Bridges Rotary Club, formed in January 2020.

Vicky Gorn, president of the Rotary club and one of the event directors, said: "We originally hoped to hold the runs in April 2020 and we had to postpone two more times but everything worked out well on Sunday. We had great feedback from the runners, many of whom are seasoned athletes. They have been telling us that the route was good and how much they enjoyed the day."

Fellow event director Alan Brown, a past president of Forth Bridges club, praised the volunteers. "When we were setting up the runs, we knew that we would need a number of volunteers as there are not enough people in our group to cover all the jobs we had to ensure everyone was safe. However, local people were happy to volunteer and reported that they had a great time."

Runners came from all over the country for the event, which was backed by a number of local sponsors, while junior piper Brooklyn Morris piped off the 3K run and then piped in the winners of the 10k adding to the atmosphere.

Vicky continued: "One of the great things about Rotary is that we can make a difference in the community locally and also overseas. Our event was not about raising money but we have been able to make a donation to the Rotary campaign to End Polio Now."

Alan added: "A lot of work has gone into this but it has all been worthwhile, giving a great event for both runners and volunteers and showing that Rotary can make a difference. I’d like to thank everyone for their help."
