MEDALS and club records were achieved by talented Dunfermline Track and Field athletes as they wowed at a thrilling national competition.

Six teams with the club travelled to Linwood recently to take part in Scottish Athletics' 4J Studios Track Relay Championships and returned with three podium finishes.

More than 300 teams from across the country took part in the event and the 4x100 metres sprints began proceedings – which brought stunning success for the club.

Despite not reaching the final, the under-13 girls' team of Rachel Barnett, Lucy Gibb, Holly Lynas and Eva Gasowska reached the semi-finals in a time of 60.69 seconds, which they improved upon with an effort of 60.04.

The under-15s – consisting of Shayna Asamoah, Sophie Thomas, Amy Jenkinson and Sarah Kane – started their bid for glory in blistering fashion, setting a new club record of 51.46 seconds in their opening round, which they broke again in 51.06 to reach the final.

In a high-quality field, the Dunfermline quartet, remarkably, set a new club best for a third time, this time clocking 50.86, but were only beaten to gold on the line by Edinburgh AC, who clocked 50.65.

That outstanding silver medal success was then followed by another for the club in the 4x300m event, in which Shayna and Sophie joined Ellie Candlish and Kirstin Penman.

Thirteen teams, in two heats, battled it out for medals – with the quickest out of both reaching the podium – and another new club record, this time of 3:01.28, ensured another silver medal was claimed behind Pitreavie AAC's Anastasia Cotorobai, Katie Thomson, Laurie Hunter and Holly Ovens, who struck gold in 2:59.82.

Dunfermline's middle distance runners were in good form in 3x800m races, with under-13s Rachel Barnett, Macy Wainwright and Freya Kiernan – in the first time a team at that age group had competed in the event – setting a club record of 8:48.62 to finish 13th out of 23 teams.

The under-15 girls' team of Ruby Candlish, Evie Sharp and Emily Fullerton smashed the previous club record by 16 seconds, clocking a time of 8:08.86 as they finished solidly in the pack, while the boys collected a gong. Another club best – this time of 6:50.39 – saw Callum Newton, David Cuthbert and Oliver Morrison finish second, with the latter bringing them home in style to bring the curtain down on the club's outdoor track season in fine fashion.
