A CAT OWNER from Dunfermline had the "best day ever" as she was reunited with her feline friend – thanks to the Press.

Gill Dall's beloved Jet disappeared from the Russell Court area on September 14 and the Press was quick to launch an online appeal to help find him.

The story then appeared in the Press the following week (September 23) and it was read by an older couple who had noticed a black cat hanging around in their back garden.

Mr and Mrs Ritson tried to coax the cat into their home but had no joy.

They contacted Gill, who then visited and searched the area a few times with no luck.

However, her luck changed on Tuesday as the couple were able to take Jet into their home.

Gill received a phone call from them at 7am and she raced to the couple's home in Whinhill.

Gill explained to the Press: "When I saw the cat, I was blown away as he looked identical to Jet in every way.

"He didn't recognise me at first by voice or by smell, so I was a little worried.

"I then picked him up and cuddled him the way he likes, and he started to snuggle up to me."

She was convinced it was Jet but still wanted to double-check by having his chip checked at the vet.

Appointments were booked until the afternoon so she took Jet home first to see how he would react to her other pets: four cats and a dog.

Gill said: "They all knew each other right away.

"Jet then jumped up onto the counter where he likes to eat, and then he went upstairs to my room and climbed onto the bed and my pillow.

"This is everything that Jet would do.

"When I took him to the vet, they checked his chip and it was him.

"He's a tired boy but he's my Jet."

Gill was eager to thank the Press and both Mr and Mrs Ritson for helping her find him.

She said: "Mrs Ritson was reading the paper when saw the story about Jet and said to her husband, 'That's the cat that's been in our garden'. She was convinced.

"She didn't see the online story as they don't use the internet really, so it was the paper itself that got her attention.

"It's unbelievable that he's home – I'm so glad you could help me!".
