LUNCH clubs are running in the Central Fife area during the October school holidays.

Café Inc is a Fife Council-funded initiative which has been running during school holidays since 2019.

Over the last summer holiday period, staff handed out 3,000 packed lunches a day to families.

There’s no need to book, no identification required, no criteria to meet, just a free packed lunch for anyone.

Due to remaining COVID restrictions in schools, lunches will be prepared as a packed lunch to go, providing children and families with a free, nutritious meal during the day to help through the holiday.

Councillor Judy Hamilton, convenor of the housing and neighbourhoods committee, said: "We know many families in Fife could use all the support they can get right now.

"Holiday periods can be very difficult financially and our Café Inc programme can help bridge the gap for many.

"While the Scottish Government have agreed to a payment over the holidays for those entitled to free school meals, we know that there are families who may not qualify but who could equally use some support at this time.

"We want to help all our families with just a little extra support because we know the impact poverty in childhood can have on children’s life chances.

"We want every child in Fife to get the help they need to achieve their full potential."

The following venues in the Central Fife area will be running clubs from Monday to Friday throughout the holidays: Benarty Primary School, Cowdenbeath Primary School, Denend Primary School, Kelty Primary School and Lochgelly High School.

All venues are providing packed lunch grab-and-go bags, and will be open from 11.45am to 1pm.

Masks must be worn in buildings, social-distancing and one way systems may be in operation.
