East of Scotland League, Premier Division:

Hill of Beath Hawthorn 0 Inverkeithing Hillfield Swifts 0

GRANT BROUGH believes his 10-man Inverkeithing Hillfield Swifts had a case for deserving all three points in a scoreless derby draw.

The hard-working visitors brought a four-game losing run in both league and cup fixtures to an end by claiming a point at Hill of Beath Hawthorn, having played for almost an hour a man short.

Ryan Mauchlen was shown a 36th-minute red card following a second booking but, despite the one-man advantage, former Pars coach Jason Dair's Haws couldn't find a route to victory.

Brough felt his team were good value for at least a point, commenting: "I felt that, for the first 10 minutes, Hill of Beath really came at us, but we weathered the storm.

"I felt we had the upper hand in the game. We had a silly sending-off after 36 minutes so we had to change the game plan. We gave up possession a wee bit but, once we did get it, our ball retention, and how we played, was really good.

"Losing a man at that time was disappointing because we were dominating the game. Looking back, coming away from a game where we've played with 10 men for 55 minutes, we're probably happy. But we could argue the case that we could've won it.

"When you've lost two or three in a row, with an inexperienced young team, doubts can creep in. But to go there and put in a performance, even after going down to 10 men, will do them the world of good."

Sauchie Juniors 2 Crossgates Primrose 5

FIVE-STAR Crossgates Primrose produced a superb performance to sweep aside Sauchie for a fourth win in five matches.

After watching his side lose 4-0 at Jeanfield Swifts on Wednesday evening, Alan Campbell said that the opening 45 minutes at Beechwood Park was as "good as I've seen us going forward".

Cammy Muirhead's fourth-minute opener put the visitors ahead and, although that was cancelled out 10 minutes later, Muirhead's second of the day, after efforts from Scott Lawrie and Mark McKenzie, put them 4-1 up at half-time.

Lawrie completed his brace on the hour mark, with a David Cross penalty providing scant consolation for Sauchie.

"The first half was a good as I've seen us going forward," Campbell said.

"At half-time, if you see the 4-1 scoreline, it looks like a hammering but that wasn't the case. They had a lot of play but, when we turned it over, we counter-attacked really well.

"Our forward players were clinical. The second half was more of a slog; we sat deeper and defended well. We got another goal, which was good, and then they got a ridiculous penalty for a consolation.

"It was a really good performance and result."

He added: "We've had a lot of problems with injuries and suspensions; we were running on empty a bit in the second half. We had three under-18s on the bench, and seven out in total.

"Normally you'll hear managers talk about injuries when they get beat but I'm happy to talk about it when we've won. The effort was tremendous."

East of Scotland League, First Division, Conference A:

Dalkeith Thistle 0 Rosyth 4

ROSYTH returned to winning ways by netting twice in each half to see off Dalkeith Thistle.

Regan Lumsden's double in the opening 45 minutes, added to by Michael Ness and Gregg Page, completed a convincing victory for Russell Craig and Dean Ogg's men.

It was a first win in three for Rosyth and Craig, who missed the match but was kept updated throughout, said: "We went out with the same formation but it all clicked.

"We've been saying for weeks that we want the boys to believe in themselves and believe in what me and Dean are telling them. We had four strikers on the scoresheet and a clean sheet is fantastic."

Rosyth went to Lowland League Cumbernauld Colts last night (Friday) in the South Challenge Cup, second round, but lost out 2-0 at Broadwood.

East of Scotland League, First Division, Conference B:

Oakley United 1 Kinnoull 0

CRAIG MARTIN was Oakley United's hero as they left it late to win a crucial match with fellow promotion contenders Kinnoull.

With nine minutes to go, he popped up to head home from a corner to seal a fifth home win of the season and move them into third place in the table.

The result also saw them bounce back from their previous match, a 2-0 defeat at Heriot-Watt University, and go to within three points of leaders Glenrothes, who have played a game more.

"It was a really good result. We were up against a very tough outfit," boss Stewart Kenny said.

"I would say we were the better side. We put them under pressure and limited them to very little. We weren't taking our chances and didn't work their goalkeeper hard enough but Craig Martin stepped up and bulleted home a header from a corner. It could've been three or four, but we weren't clinical enough.

"It was a good performance. The boys showed what they are capable of against a good side that will be up there."

Today's fixtures: Cumbernauld United v Inverkeithing Hillfield Swifts (2pm), Dundonald Bluebell v Crossgates Primrose (2.30pm), Syngenta v Oakley United (2.30pm).
