SCOTTISH singer-songwriter KT Tunstall will take to the stage in Dunfermline tonight (Thursday) after choosing to play live at PJ Molloys.

The performer will play an intimate show as part of the Passport: Back to Our Roots project which aims to raise money for independent grassroots music venues recovering from the pandemic.

The project is a nationwide series of one-off intimate gigs by the UK’s biggest artists, supporting the smaller and locally owned premises that form the foundations of the UK’s live music scene.

Last September, music lovers were able to enter a prize draw for tickets. For a £5 minimum donation, they went into the hat to win passes to the show of their choice for themselves and a guest.

With proceeds going towards both the individual venues and Music Venue Trust’s #SaveOurVenues campaign, Passport: Back to Our Roots raised almost £140,000 to safeguard the futures of music venues struggling to survive the COVID-19 crisis.

Simon Webbon, from Band on the Wall who produced the initiative, was delighted to see gigs taking place.

“When the pandemic shut down the music industry back in Spring 2020, we just had to try and do our bit to help,” he explained.

"We raided our address books and pulled together everyone we could to try and raise some urgently needed money for the UK’s independent grassroots music venues.

“Thanks to an amazing collective of artists, including KT Tunstall, and of course everyone who donated to enter the prize draws, we raised almost £140,000 and helped save some of the country’s most loved cultural venues.

“It’s been a long time coming due to Covid restrictions being in place longer than anyone could’ve imagined, but it’s amazing to see these gigs now take place.”
