YOU could help save a life by buying a Hillend Community Hub calendar for 2022.

The group has produced the calendar which features village events both past and present and the money raised will go towards buying a defibrillator.

Tony Connor, from the group, said: "Once again this year the Hillend Community Hub have produced a calendar for the forthcoming year.

"The calendar features both recent events in the village along with older pictures and stories including, along with others: memories of the primary school which shut in 1971 and the railway which ran along side the present route of the bypass.

"All profits raised will go to a fundraiser to purchase a defibrillator for the village."

A couple of community events have also been arranged at 'The Square' just off Main Street, to help raise funds.

Tony continued: "We are having a couple of community events on Sunday, October 31 and Sunday, November 7, between 1pm and 3pm, where calendars can be purchased.

"Along with the calendar stall, we will also have further community stalls including on Sunday, with a stall manned by members of the Royal Naval Association fundraising for Poppy Scotland. The Hillend Tavern will also resurrect their monthly "Bake-Off" competition which was held in the pub prior the pandemic. With a topical theme of Halloween, all baking after judging will be sold for the fundraiser.

"Other stalls over the two weekends will feature a raffle (fundraiser for village Christmas tree), jewellery, decorative bottles, home baking, and children's craft packs."

Tony added: "Along with the stalls on Sunday, we will also have a competition for all village households for the best Pumpkin or Turnip. With prizes for everyone and a decorative Halloween themed bottle to the winner kindly donated by Angela McArthur."

Calendars can be purchased, at £8 each, at the events.
