A PERSON has died after being struck by a train near Dunfermline this afternoon.
British Transport Police (BTP) have confirmed that the person involved in the incident was pronounced dead at the scene after emergency services attended.
In a statement, they said: "British Transport Police were called to the line near Dunfermline at 2.07pm today (3 November) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
"Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
"Officers are working to identify the deceased and inform their next of kin.
"This incident it not being treated as suspicious."
Earlier, Scotrail had posted on social media that the line between Inverkeithing and Cowdenbeath had been closed following the incident.
Services between Edinburgh and Glenrothes with Thornton via Rosyth and Dunfermline have been cancelled as a result.
While the line is closed, Stagecoach bus services are accepting tickets between Inverkeithing and Edinburgh to support emergency services.
