AWARD-WINNING cameraman and wildlife film-maker Doug Allan will be raising funds for Children's Clothing Bank Dunfermline in a one-off special event this month.

His up-close-and-personal encounters with polar bears, surviving in minus 50° temperatures, and conversations with whales will all be under the spotlight in a talk called 'Hairy Scary Thrillers' on November 28.

Suitable for ages eight and upwards, the whole family can enjoy Doug's beautiful photos, amazing film clips and entertaining anecdotes – learning lots about the natural world along the way.

Doug hails from Dunfermline and spent seven years in Antarctica as a research diver, scientist and photographer before changing direction to full-time freelance filming in 1983.

He is now one of the world’s best-known and respected cameramen, specialising in natural history, expeditions and science documentaries in some of the wildest and most remote places on the planet.

In his 35-year filming career, Doug has filmed for series such as The Blue Planet, Planet Earth and Frozen Planet.

He said: "I’m only too pleased to be able to help raise funds and awareness of the great job the clothing bank is doing.

"Providing top-quality, pre-loved clothes for local families in need is a brilliant way to help in these financially-uncertain and challenging times.

"The service also has a strong ‘green’ side, re-using perfectly good clothing which might otherwise find its way to landfill."

Since opening its doors officially to referrals in November 2020, the Children’s Clothing Bank has provided clothing parcels for more than 290 children in the Dunfermline area, ranging in age from babies just a few months old to teenagers.

Referrals to the clothing bank are accepted through professionals or practitioners who work with or support families, such as health visitors, school/nursery staff, social workers, family support services and charities including Homestart and the Dunfermline Hub.

Tickets for the event are £7.50 with all cash raised going directly to Children’s Clothing Bank Dunfermline.

Places are limited though so book soon for what is sure to be a fantastic evening for all the family – just search ‘Doug Allan’ on Eventbrite to purchase tickets for the event on Sunday, November 28, at 7pm at the Gillespie Church.
