TEMPORARY classrooms will be added in the grounds of McLean Primary School after plans were given the go-ahead.

Fife Council’s property services had requested permission to erect a modular hut to accommodate two classrooms which will be used for three years to help cope with increased demand because of housebuilding in the Wellwood area.

Approving the plans, planner Kerry Gibson said although it was agreed that the proposed hut “could be of a more sympathetic design”, it was considered that it would not detract from the historic setting of the site.

She added: “In addition, the positioning of the hut is temporary and therefore there would be no lasting impact. There would be no significant additional issues in relation to noise, daylight/sunlight, privacy, drainage and road safety.

“The erection of the hut would be beneficial to the wider community and would ensure that the demands for increased capacity within schools can be met.”
