POLICE are investigating an incident in which a group of youths reportedly caused havoc in the Kingsgate Centre on Sunday evening.

Youngsters, some on scooters, are reported to have directed abuse towards people working in the centre.

It was the latest in a series of alleged incidents which has also seen damage caused to premises including the Santa's Web grotto on the upper floor.

Its owner Mark Bennett said issues had taken place at their premises and elsewhere however added that several youngsters had returned to apologise to him and his builder on Thursday.

"It was repairable but we had to go and buy the stuff," he said.

"They need somewhere to go. It is dark at 4pm and it is freezing cold out here.

"They are coming up on scooters and trying to find somewhere to hide. When they get chased out, they cause havoc.

"The kids, the ring leaders, came up yesterday and made the others apologise. The main problem is there's no-one on the door just now."
