AN AERIAL fitness craze that is sweeping the world is bouncing into Dunfermline in a first for Scotland.

BungeeFit classes have launched at Studio-X in Canmore Street – a fun, full-body aerobic workout with the added twist of flying across the room attached to a bungee rope.

The craze, which started in the USA, has begun to gather momentum in the UK, with classes allowing you to jump high, swing around in the air and even do flips, all while getting fit.

Owner of Studio-X Lisa Gibson qualified recently in Bungee Fitness along with instructors Bethany Ferguson and Jen Turner.

She said: "I think we are the first place in Scotland to have the classes, if not we're definitely the first in Fife.

"We travelled down to Nottingham to qualify and it was only their second course so there's only a handful of instructors in the UK.

"They said no-one else has been trained from Scotland and I haven't seen it anywhere else, so it's more than likely we're the first place in Scotland."

BungeeFit has been credited with offering more support to participants as it's low-impact – making it suitable for a wide range of abilities.

"It's like an aerobic workout but there is little impact on your joints," Lisa explained. "You can do squats, burpees, running and jumping but it pulls you and you can also fly across the room!

"It feels like you are defying gravity and not really doing exercise because it's great fun!

"I always like jumping on the next craze. In the past, I was one of the first people to do Zumba but because everyone was doing it, I didn't really want to do it any more and moved on to pole fitness.

"I always keep looking out for the next thing and during lockdown I kept seeing these Bungee Fitness videos popping. It was a great opportunity to do something else."

Bungee Fitness can vary with Studio-X looking to offer HITT workouts, martial arts and also dance classes.

The studio offers classes in Polefit, Spin pole, Aerial hoop, Aerial Hammock, Aerial Silks, Powerhoop and Trapeze currently as well as kids' circus parties and workshops.

Lisa added: "Our classes for BungeeFit have started off well and we're fully booked at the moment.

"We have eight classes a week but we're looking to start some more classes in January.

"We've only just really started getting back our normal operation after lockdown so it's great that it's popular.

"BungeeFit definitely makes you feel like a kid again and you can manage to do things you never thought you would be able to.

"I cannot do a back flip normally but it's really in a harness – anyone can do it!"
