NHS FIFE'S director of public health has admitted there is a "particular cluster of COVID-19 cases associated with Carnock Primary School".

Dr Joy Tomlinson said that there were "slightly higher" rates of infection in some of the West Fife villages and "particularly amongst school-age children".

And letters have been given to parents and carers advising them on how they can avoid catching the virus and stop it spreading.

A member of the public, who wanted to remain anonymous, said there had been a "worrying COVID spike" in the villages and claimed that up to 50 pupils at Carnock were absent last week as a result.

She also said there were a "lot of cases" at Inzievar and Holy Name primary schools in Oakley.

The Press asked Fife Council and NHS Fife to comment.

Dr Tomlinson responded: "The patterns of COVID transmission in West Fife are broadly similar with the rest of the Kingdom, however, we are seeing slightly higher rates of infection in some villages, particularly amongst school-age children.

“We are aware of a particular cluster of COVID-19 cases associated with Carnock Primary School, where parents have been issued with advisory letters to inform them of recent cases and given public health advice to reduce the risk of catching and passing on the virus.

“It remains as important as ever that people across Fife continue to remain vigilant for the signs and symptoms of the virus, regardless of how mild, and self-isolate and book a test if we develop any of these.

"Doing so helps us reduce the transmission of Covid-19 results in fewer people becoming unwell after contracting the virus.”
