A ROSYTH pup will put her paw in the ring for the Scotland's Best Dog title on national television tonight (Thursday).

Black Labrador Harper will take to the screen on BBC Scotland at 8pm when dog-lover Kaye Adams, animal behaviourist River McDonald and Scottish SPCA veteran Alan Grant will decide who will be the week's top dog and make it through to the grand final.

Her owner, Scott McKinlay, is looking forward to seeing his pooch perform on the television.

"It was a great experience. It was really good," he told the Press. "We enjoyed it and can't wait for our episode. It was filmed back in September. We did all the pre-screening in August and the actual episode was filmed in September."

Pitting her wits against two other dogs, Harper will take part in three activities: recall, a bond exercise and an agility exercise.

"We were given a bit of information before going to it about the type of training we can do and what would be good to prepare for it and that is what we used.

"She did really well – she surprised me and behaved really well on the day. At the end of it, she was absolutely exhausted being active all day so we tried to take her away on a small walk in between so she was getting a bit of rest from the dogs and all the people.

"We really enjoyed doing it and it built up an even stronger bond between me and her.

"She is a 100 per cent, energetic dog. She is one-and-a-half and is full of beans all the time. She likes going out on walks and loves swimming and we try and keep as active as her.

"I hope all the energy stays with her when she grows up and becomes an adult dog."

Scott and partner Leyla, who both work in the banking industry, are planning on watching the episode live when it goes out on the BBC Scotland channel.

"We are a bit nervous but at the same time excited to see our bit," added Scott. "We have watched the last three episodes. We know how the show works in terms of what it looks like.

"I can't give away any spoilers but she does do really well."
