KRISTIN LOWNIE enjoyed medal success as she ran to an impressive third place at the Scottish Athletics East District Cross-Country Championships.

The event was held at Stirling University recently and the PH Racing Club athlete, who only joined the veteran ranks recently, ran a time of 37 minutes and 50 seconds to claim a bronze medal behind Jill Stephen (Hunters Bog Trotters) and Edel Mooney (Ochil Hill Runners).

Julie Menzies was the sixth-placed masters runner, covering the 8.6 kilometre course in 38:40, while Louise Lessels ensured the team of three finished third overall with a time of 43:26. Susan Allan made up the senior ladies' four and timed at 51:02.

In the men's race, Andrew Davis was the quickest of the PH contingent, placing as fourth master in 32:13, combining with Paul Kieran (34:28) and Mark Webster (36:08) to finish as third team in that category.

Although there were no V60 medals on offer, John Crookston finished third in his category in 39:21; Michael Lindsay ran 39:48 in his first cross-country race for a couple of years; Paul Hammond, in a first cross-country outing since school, ran 41:50; and Mark Western clocked 42:04.

Prior to that event, PH were well represented at the second East District Cross-Country League meeting at Dundee's Camperdown Park, with Davis, Kieran and Webster combining to ensure the men's masters team finished first on the day.

Davis posted the team's fastest run, covering the 8.6km course in 35:08 to finish as the third master and 30th overall, while Kieran (36:52, seventh master) and Webster (38:47, 19th), gave them a total of 29 points to move PH to the top of the league.

The senior men's team also had a good day, with Darren Jubb (36:.26), under-20 Aaron Bennet (36:46) and Colin Somerville (38:17) combining with the three masters counters to place them sixth on the day and move them up to fourth overall for the season so far.

Two laps of the course were completed by competitors in the women's race, which saw Menzies first home in 27:23, followed by Mary Western (29:39), Clare Graham (32:48) and Allan (34:.5), which saw them place ninth on the day and for the season to date.

The final race takes place in Livingston next month.

In addition, overseas members Gayle and Katrina Lindsay enjoyed high placings in half marathons on the islands where they are based.

Katrina, in the British Virgin Islands Sunrise Half Marathon, ran a new PB of 1:36.1 to finish first female and fifth overall, while twin sister Gayle was second female, and seventh overall, with a new best of 1:27.59 at the Hannover Re Half Marathon in Bermuda.
