FAMILY moments, important milestones and simply getting through the year are what Press readers have described as their highlights of 2021.

In a year in which plans were still affected greatly by the pandemic, West Fifers outlined their best bits on our Facebook page.

Jean Appleby had one amazing highlight, commenting: "Becoming first-time grandparents to the most gorgeous grandson" while the birth of Lynn Boyle's grand-daughter was her best bit of the year too.

Helen Grant Mckeown said the arrival of her new grandson was her highlight while Jeanette Wilmanski said: "My first great-grandson was born and he lights up the world with his beautiful smile."

For Lisa Walker, "getting married to my best friend" was her favourite part of the year and Tammy Hume said her best part was getting a house with her girls.

Family was central to Donald J Makin's highlights. He said: "Music-wise, La Fontaines at PJ Molloy's was immense. What a gig. Having a proper summer outside reading in the sunshine was good. One of the biggest was seeing my family at Christmas for dinner. It's been two years since we last did this."

Ronnie Collins said: "Seeing more people taking to getting outdoors and appreciate what we have on our doorstep" was his highlight while, for Adam Anderson, "Scotland beating Israel at Hampden" topped his year.

Stacie Neep said: "Meeting new friends and also meeting Tico Torres and Jamie Redknapp" were her favourite bits of 2021.

Patricia Forsyth's highlight was enjoying all that Fife has to offer. She explained: "Walked the Pilgrim Way over the summer. That was an achievement."

Fellow reader Mary Carr said her favourite part was a holiday to the Lake District, while, for Derek Smith, "still being alive" was his highlight.

Some West Fifers seemed glad to see the back of 2021 with Willie Allan commenting: "It ending" to the question of what his highlight had been while Graham Allan's tongue-in-cheek answer, "The lamppost outside my house. Must be at least 20 feet up" raised some smiles.

Here's to many more West Fife highlights in 2022.
