THE Kingsgate Centre manger has insisted that progress is being made on the empty Debenhams unit in Dunfermline, a year after the retailer collapsed.

Debenhams occupied a large part of the shopping centre up until early 2021.

Details are commercially-sensitive but the Press has been told that work is happening in the background with parties interested in the space.

Neil Mackie, Kingsgate Centre manager, said: “There has been progress but it’s very slow. With the complexities of the building, there isn’t much I can say. But there is work happening the the background. The agents are incredibly proactive and we’re moving in the right direction.

“Lettings on the whole are looking very positive for the centre.”

Debenhams announced that they would shut all of their stores across the UK in December last year when the pandemic exacerbated problems an already-struggling business was facing.

The brand was bought by the Boohoo group in January but the deal did not include saving stores.

The Kingsgate was dealt several further blows as it was announced that Topshop stores were to close permanently as well as Dorothy Perkins and Burton in February.
