A 57-yEAR-OLD Kincardine man who wielded a knife and threatened to kill a woman because her dogs were barking has been jailed.

The woman had left her dogs outside a local store while she was shopping there.

John Urbaniak, who lives nearby, appeared with a knife and threatened to kill the woman and her dogs.

Urbaniak, of Mercer Street, appeared in the dock at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

He admitted that on June 1 last year, at Mercer Street, he was in possession of a knife.

He also admitted he shouted, brandished a knife and threatened to kill a woman and her dogs.

Depute fiscal Azrah Yousaf said that at 6pm, the woman went to the shop and tied up her dogs.

Urbaniak started shouting at the dogs, telling them to “shut up”, then went into his house and returned with a large kitchen knife.

“He was pointing the knife at the complainer threatening to kill her dogs and her. She contacted the police,” added the depute.

Defence solicitor Elaine Buist said her client had been disturbed by the dogs previously when trying to sleep.

On this occasion, he was not working and had been drinking, sitting outside in his garden.

“He certainly regrets the incident,” she added.

However, Sheriff James MacDonald pointed out that Urbaniak said to a social worker he would do the same thing again if the dogs were barking.

Sheriff MacDonald told Urbaniak he had shown no remorse for his actions and jailed him for six months.
