ATHLETES with Dunfermline Track and Field enjoyed some "phenomenal" success as they claimed medal glory at the 4J Studios Scottish Athletics National Indoor Senior Under-17 Championships.

The event at Glasgow's Emirates Arena saw members of the club deliver impressive performances on their way to one gold, four silver and two bronze gongs.

In the high jump, Matthew Tait cleared 1.95 metres – breaking the club's indoor record by 20 centimetres in the process – to take top spot ahead of clubmate Callum Newton, who secured silver with a personal best of 1.79m to ensure the club of a first and second in the Scottish rankings for the event.

There was also a bronze medal for Callum in the 60m hurdles, in which he ran a time of 8.94 seconds, finishing just behind winner Daniel Martin (Giffnock North AC, 8.44), and Ben Heron (North Ayrshire AAC, 8.62), while Oliver Morrison was unfortunate to miss out on the 800m final despite running an excellent PB of 2:08.69 in the heats.

In the women's events, Darcie Black collected two silver medals, in the 60m hurdles and long jump.

In the former, a time of 9.35 saw her finish second behind race winner Jenna Hilditch (VP-Glasgow AC, 9.02), while a leap of 5.27m in the long jump saw her again finish behind Jenna but gave her a new Dunfermline Track and Field club record in that event.

There was also a new club record for Shayna Asamoah, who won 60m bronze in a time of 7.98, while Ellie Candlish also added silver to the medal haul in the high jump, where he was unfortunate to miss out on gold via a countback, courtesy of a clearance of 1.54m.

Kirstin Penman competed in the triple jump and, despite leaping an excellent 8.88m, the high standard of competition was such that she missed out on a medal, with Ayr Seaforth's Libby White winning gold with a new national under-17 record of 12.31m.

A club spokesperson added: "Well done to all our athletes who competed. To mix it with the best in the country is an achievement enough, but to win a medal at this level is phenomenal."
