THE Scottish Masters Cross-Country Championships proved to be successful for PH Racing Club as they collected an impressive medal haul.

Following on from the men's masters team taking the East District Cross Country League title, six gongs were collected by club members at the event, which was held at Balgownie, Aberdeen.

Running first were the female athletes – along with the over-65 men – who completed a three-lap, six-kilometre course, and Kristin Lownie was PH's fastest runner, placing seventh in a strong F40 category in a time of 25 minutes and 12 seconds.

Julie Menzies was not far behind her regular training partner, clocking a time of 25:33, as she picked up the club's first medal of the competition with bronze in the F45 category.

Louise Lessels was the final counter for PH's combined F40/45 team, who won team silver behind Garscube Harriers, as Clare Graham – in 29:43 – completed the female finishers with a seventh place in the F50 category.

Although there was no team competition for the over-65 men, Ed Norton, Malcolm Hammond and Allen Marr all ran well, with Norton and Hammond winning M70 silver and bronze with runs of 27:42 and 28:21 respectively, while Marr placed sixth in the M65 category in a time of 29:20.

A longer, 8K course was presented to the younger male age groups, and in-form Andy Davis was another star PH performer, winning V45 silver with a superb run of 27:27.

Andrew Wright and Paul Kieran, in the same category, both finished just outside the medals in fourth and fifth place respectively, clocking times of 28:47 and 29:00, and with four counters required for the combined V40/45 men's team, Robert Sellar, who was 13th in the V45 category, saw them finish top and claim gold.

Scott McDonald, Mark McLean and Mark Western made up a combined M50/55/60 team that placed eighth overall, with the trio finishing in times of 30:59, 33:27 and 34:26 overall.

Mark Webster also ran well, completing the course in a time of 30:56 ahead of finishing 11th overall, and fourth M40, in the Forfar Multi-Terrain Half Marathon in 1:29.02, while Susan Allan ran the Falkirk 33-Mile Ultra in 6:14.46.
