AN INVERKEITHING restaurant which has been closed since a man died close to the premises last year is set for a revamp.

Plans have been submitted for alterations at The Gulshan in High Street.

The premises were boarded up in September last year after the death of a 44-year-old man.

Following the incident, a 26 year-old man, Abdul Foyez, from Inverkeithing, appeared in private and on petition at Dunfermline Sheriff Court charged with murder and being in possession of a bladed item in public.

Proposals have now been unveiled which aim to give the "tired" building a complete overhaul.

A statement to planners said that over the past few years, the fabric of the building had deteriorated and the owners were currently seeking financial assistance from the Inverkeithing Townscape Heritage/Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme to assist with the work estimated to cost up to £120,000.

The report said: "61-63 High Street is a significant corner building positioned on the Main Street in Inverkeithing. In general, it holds a number of significant qualities; aesthetic, social and historical to the town.

"However, the physical condition of the property is deteriorating and repair work is now necessary urgently to, firstly, prevent ongoing and further deterioration and, secondly, to maintain its existing significance within the context of the town.

"Internally, the owners are suffering terribly from water ingress, notably around the front roof area. This is causing constant water saturation and is currently being managed with many buckets being emptied on a regular basis.

"This of course emphasises the requirement to make the property wind- and water-tight."

Local councillor David Barratt said it was "very encouraging" to see a planning application in for external works to the Gulshan.

He added: "The appearance of the place has been in a bad way for a while now and people were beginning to wonder if it would re-open."
