GYMNASTS with a West Fife club have been jumping for joy after enjoying a successful trophy raid over the border.

Members of Acrobay, which is based in Rosyth, brought home two cups, along with six medals, from the King Edmund Acro Cup that was held near Bristol earlier this month.

Partnerships in grades one to three went up against the UK's top clubs at the competition, which took place over the weekend of February 5-6, and they brought home a pair of accolades for the highest tournament scores.

A major event in the gymnastics calendar, the King Edmund Acro Cup was hosted at the Yate International Gymnastics Centre, which features in the hit CBBC series 'Gym Stars', but the large venue did not intimidate Acrobay's gymnasts, who were aged between eight and 13.

The highest score of the day was achieved by grade two pair Lauren Whitfield and Lillie MacKean, both from Dalgety Bay, whose effort of 27.3 secured gold medals and one of the club's two trophies.

The other, together with further gold medals, was earned by Dunfermline duo Leona Williamson and Khloe Cameron, whose score of 26.9 was the highest in their grade.

Also finishing top of the standings were grade three pair Imara Beattie and Ruby Melville, who finished just ahead of team-mates Kayla Ballantyne and Arabella Blacklaws, who won bronze, while grade one pair Cali Gibson and Amelie Belford, and grade two pair Lainey McKilligan and Alana McClymont, won silver.

Acrobay coach Debbie Wilson said: "All the coaches are immensely proud of these girls.

"Some are very young to travel so far to compete at such a tough tournament but there were great performances all-round."

Fellow coach Stacey Porterfield added: "Winning two trophies and six medals was fantastic, especially when COVID is still disrupting training.

"Many achieved personal best scores and they all gained really valuable competition experience, especially now as we train hard in the run-up to the Scottish Championships in March.

"It was a brilliant team effort and one of our most successful trips to Bristol."

Outside the medals, other placings included: grade one pairs – Chloe Osborne and Freya Walker (seventh); grade two groups – Neave Burns, Zofia Jurkiewicz and Isla Paton (fourth), Hannah Avery, Grace Cunningham and Orla Noble (11th), Charlotte Ballantyne, Rebecca Wilson and Brodey Smith (12th); grade three groups – Isla Rourke, Eva Rose Courtney and Roxie Kemp (seventh); Georgia Haddow, Jorja Smith and Ellie Murray (13th); Nosa Idehen, Zoe Gracie and Daisy Valente (15th).
