VILLAGERS in Aberdour have been warned about more disruption with pipe-laying in Silver Sands park and under the Fife Circle railway line.

Villagers are already putting up with temporary traffic lights on Main Street – the road is being widened as part of Cala Homes' new development – and underground works announced this week will take place 24 hours a day.

In an update for the community, the company said locals may be affected by noise and bright lights from the work and explained: "As part of the site infrastructure works and to meet Scottish Water requirements, a new surface water pipe will be installed under the ground at Silver Sands park.

"Work here is currently under way. A new section of pipe will need to be installed underneath the railway line.

"This will involve drilling a sleeved pipe under the width of the railway from Silver Sands Park into our development.

"The pipe drilling work must be carried out in accordance with the requirements of Network Rail, who stipulate that works are to be carried out around the clock until completion.

"This means that operations will be undertaken 24 hours per day until complete.

"These works are programmed to commence at 8am on Monday (March 14) until the evening of Friday, March 18.

"All work will be monitored and supervised by Network Rail."

Cala continued: "The drilling contractor (Pipeline Drillers) and the ground worker (Realm) will require to be on site 24 hours per day.

"A member of Cala's construction team will also be on call at all times.

"The contractor will undertake appropriate measures in order to minimise the impact of these works on our neighbours, however, these works will include task lighting and plant operations which will be visible and audible during the works, as work must be undertaken to Network Rail's specification.

"We have informed Fife Council of these upcoming works."

Cala are building 84 new houses at a site off Main Street, at the eastern edge of the village, and said the road-widening works should be complete by mid-April.

They added: "General earthworks on site are ongoing.

"We anticipate that the bulk of the site earthworks will be complete in July.

"Commencement of works for the first residential plot are scheduled for the end of April, with first legal occupations likely in November."
