MORE THAN £2,000 has been raised by runners at Valleyfield Woods as a part of the Snowdrop 5K trail race on Sunday.

The money will go towards running costs of the West Fife Woodlands and Shiresmill Therapy Riding Centre and will help volunteers maintain pathways.

Runners from West Fife clubs such as Pitreavie, Jog Scotland Dunfermline and Cowdenbeath, Carnegie, PH, and Dunfermline Academy of Super Heroes all took part, along with members of clubs around Scotland.

All that took part in the event received a goody bag and a handmade wooden medal, while runners from further afield that could not make it to the woods could take part in a 'virtual' run taking place online which included runners from London and even Melbourne.

Martin Butcher, a runner from PH Running Club, said: “The riding centre is very close to our hearts as our son attends weekly and it’s given him so much confidence already. It was amazing having him cheering me on and to be part of something with great friends and the inspiring running community, so getting ninth place overall was a total buzz.

“During these times, an event like this really does help the mind, body and soul. Well done to all my friends for amazing runs and massive thanks to everyone involved in organising and hosting today’s event, superb effort all round.”

It was a successful day for PH Running Club as the first three male and female finishers were all PH athletes. The males were Mark Ryan, Aaron Bennet, and Craig Paterson, while Julie Menzies, Kristen Lownie and Judith Turner made up the female top three.
