The Scottish Government recently made changes to legislation, every home now must be fitted with a number of smoke and heat detectors depending on the size of the property.
These can be hard wired mains or fitted with a long life sealed battery and must be interlinked so that, any one alarm detecting a fire, will sound all of the alarms. A carbon monoxide detector is also required if the home has a carbon fuelled boiler or fire but this does not need to be linked to the other alarms.
Homeowners must make sure that the alarms fitted meet the relevant standards and, if the alarms are hard wired, check whether or not a building warrant is required. More information and details about where to get further advice are available on our web site www.fife.gov.uk/buildingstandards
