ROAD improvements involving two weeks of overnight closures on the M90 motorway in West Fife are now underway.

A combination of slip roads and lanes will be shut between junction 1B (Rosyth) and junction 3 (Halbeath) to allow for road markings to be repainted and road studs to be replaced.

Work began on Sunday and is being carried out in 10 phases by Transport Scotland’s operating company, BEAR Scotland.

This week, overnight works from 8pm to 6.30am are taking place on the M90 northbound carriageway from Junction 1B to Junction 3, using lane closures on the main carriageway and slip road closures with signed diversion routes.

Week two will see a similar approach on the southbound carriageway.

The company's south east network manager, Tommy Deans, explained: “It’s essential for safety that we close lanes and slip roads while these works are carried out, however we will keep the M90 mainline open to reduce delays as much as possible.

“We’ve split the works into 10 phases to minimise the volume of closures on any one night, reduce delays on the main carriageway and increase work efficiency.

“If you are planning to use the M90 at night over the next two weeks, our advice is to check what restrictions will be in place and allow extra time for your journey if necessary.

“We thank road users and the local community for their patience and understanding.”

BEAR Scotland are using the using the closures to replace the current road markings with more retro-reflective, skid resistant and durable markings.

Any defective or missing road studs will also be replaced.

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and other relevant stakeholders to share information about the project in advance.
