AN INDEPENDENT Dunfermline brewery has scooped a national award.

The SaltRock Brewing’s ‘Red Wagon’ ale landed a gold accolade in the British Premium Bitter category at the SIBA National Independent Beer Awards 2022, which took place in Liverpool earlier this month.

Since starting production in Dunfermline last year, the company has focused on malt-forward ales brewed using local ingredients – with base grain being grown and malted in Fife by Crafty Maltsters – and traditional methods to produce beers with flavour and substance.

SaltRock Brewing director, Pete Rossborough, was delighted with the success.

“To achieve such recognition from esteemed industry professionals in our first year of production is mind-blowing, and a real endorsement that our beers are right up there with the best,” he said.

“Red Wagon has been a favourite among repeat customers at markets, so this award is the icing on the cake.”

His award-winning beer is described as an easy drinking ale, leading with caramel and toasted notes with a refreshing dry finish.

The SIBA National Independent Beer Awards are judged mostly by brewers, industry experts and beer journalists and are seen as the prestigious ‘Brewers’ choice Awards’ by the industry.
