A DRUNK man assaulted four females, including two police officers, after trouble broke out at a Hogmanay party.

Batons and pepper-spray were used to bring 35-year-old Jamie Smith under control.

Smith, of Morlich Place, Dalgety Bay, appeared in the dock at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

He admitted that on December 31, at King Street, Inverkeithing, he assaulted a female by pushing her on the body, causing her to fall over a wall.

He then assaulted two female police officers grabbing one by the clothing, ripping it, struck her on the head with his arms, kicked her on the body and pushed her, all to her injury.

He seized the other officer by the body, attempted to pull her out of a police vehicle, pushed her to the ground and attempted to kick her on the body.

He also assaulted his former partner during the same incident by pushing her on the body and punching her on the head.

Depute fiscal Michael Robertson said Smith had been invited to a Hogmanay party and, between 7-9pm, had consumed a large quantity of alcohol, including rum, wine and cider.

By 9pm, he was described as being “quite intoxicated and emotional”.

It was decided at around 9.30pm a taxi should be ordered to take him home but he became angry and refused to leave.

He pushed a woman, causing her to fall over a wall which resulted in the police being called.

They arrived at 9.50pm and Smith went to the police vehicle immediately. He grabbed an officer by the arm and tried to remove her from the vehicle.

The other officer got out and approached Smith who lashed out at her, grabbing her fleece top and ripping it.

He continued to shout, swear and flail his arms about after being arrested. Officers used their batons and then PAVA spray to bring him under control.

Defence solicitor Alexander Flett said: “This seems to be entirely out of character for him. He says he felt his mental health had been deteriorating in the months leading up to this.

“He’s very remorseful for his behaviour and has no recollection of the incident.”

Sheriff Robert More told Smith: “Things got completely out of hand and you ruined people’s night. Your behaviour towards the police officers was disgraceful whether you remember it or not.”

The sheriff imposed a community payback order with nine months of supervision. He also ordered Smith to pay a total of £300 compensation between the victims.
