A STRANGER approached a young girl on her way home from school yesterday (Monday).

The 12-year-old girl was walking home in Dalgety Bay, when a man in a silver transit-style van pulled over and asked if she was looking for her mum.

Her dad, who does not want to be named, has since reported the incident to the police.

He told the Press: "She was walking past the BP station and the van actually drove past her.

"The guy's obviously seen her and, he's anticipated a route ahead of her. So, he's pulled into the industrial estate, pulled up alongside the road that he thought she might be walking, and she's walked past.

“He's seen her, pulled in and waited."

When she got home and told her dad, an ex-marine and firefighter, what had happened, he went back to the industrial estate in St David’s Drive immediately  only to find the van was gone.

The family have now posted information on the incident on Facebook.

In the post, he wrote: "I went straight up in the car to speak to him but he had gone. Police have all the information and are investigating. As the police said, it might be innocent, I don't think it was."

Since posting the information on social media, more people have gone on to report similar incidents.

He continued: "From the posts on Facebook, there's been a couple of other females that have been on that post that have mentioned, situations have happened to them. They've actually called in to the police as well.

"My daughter's friend's mum has phoned my wife this morning and said that her little girl was approached a couple of days ago. She had just left it, but she has phoned that into the police as well."

His daughter is still unsettled by what happened and her dad has been left feeling "angry, worried and concerned", saying: "My little girl, she didn't even look at the person because she was that scared, she just looked straight ahead and just walked quicker.

"She'll never walk home alone again. Which is a shame."
