THE embezzlement trial of former MP Natalie McGarry has been postponed as her defence counsel is unwell.

The 40-year-old, originally from Inverkeithing, allegedly stole more than £25,000 from two organisations advocating for Scottish independence between April 2013 and August 2015.

Ms McGarry, who represented Glasgow East for the SNP, is said to have embezzled £21,000 while treasurer for Women for Independence (WFI).

A second charge states she took £4,661 when she was treasurer, secretary and convener of Glasgow Regional Association of the SNP.

Ms McGarry, now of Clarkston, East Renfrewshire, denies the two charges at Glasgow Sheriff Court.

Yesterday (Thursday), the jury was told by sheriff Tom Hughes: “Thanks for attending this morning. The position is I have been advised that Mr Macleod is unwell today and is unable to be here unfortunately. I will adjourn until tomorrow.”

The trial was also adjourned earlier this month when Ms McGarry was unwell.
