TWO of Dunfermline Rugby Club's brightest young prospects played their part in winning a national tournament representing Fife.

Playing as part of the Dundee/Fife side, Kelci Noble and Olivia Steel won the National Under-18 Girls' Shield, defeating Caithness 36-19 in the final, which was held at Edinburgh Rugby's 'The DAM Health Stadium' on March 27.

"Playing at the DAM was a great opportunity for both of us and it well and truly lived up to the expectation," Kelci said.

"Coming from a small girls' team, with only four under-18s, to having the chance to represent Dunfermline while playing for Dundee at the DAM, was a fantastic opportunity. We went in as the underdogs being a newly-formed team, so winning the Shield was even more of a big deal for us.

"The energy throughout the team was ecstatic right from driving through the gates at Murrayfield to coming home on the coach. Winning the Shield meant the world to every single player on our team and every single one of us worked so hard for that opportunity.

"It was definitely a day we will all remember for the rest of our lives."

Nick Matheson, Kelci and Olivia's coach at Dunfermline, added: "It’s been great watching them develop as players over the past three-and-a-half years, both having had no experience of rugby to now playing and competing in a cup final!

"Fantastic achievement for both."
