A drink-driver who crashed when more than four times over the limit has not done the unpaid work imposed on him.

Simon Whyte’s alcohol issues have been blamed for his failure to carry out the court-ordered sentence.

He was drunk when he drove through a red light, collided with another vehicle in Crossgates and then tried to run away.

Whyte, 41, formerly of South Larch Way, Dunfermline, now of Sinclair Drive, Cowdenbeath, previously appeared at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

He had admitted that on September 29 last year in Main Street, Crossgates, he drove after consuming excess alcohol.

His reading was 93 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, the legal limit being 22 microgrammes.

Depute fiscal Azrah Yousaf had told the court that Whyte was seen driving at 11.30pm when he went through a red light and was in a collision with a van.

He then tried to run away from the crash scene but was grabbed by a member of the public.

Sheriff Grant McCulloch had imposed a community payback order with 80 hours of unpaid work and a 15-month driving ban.

However, Whyte was back in the dock after failing to complete the unpaid work.

The court was told by defence solicitor Calum Harris that “chronic alcohol issues” meant Whyte was unable to carry out the penalty.

Sheriff William Gilchrist revoked the community payback order, called for reports and Whyte will be sentenced again on June 8.
