A ROSYTH councillor is still in the running – this time for the Scottish SPCA.

After his success in the local elections, Brian Goodall, one of the ward’s SNP representatives, is back pounding the streets and pavements and already knows he's onto a winner for the charity.

“The challenge is to walk 50k in May,” he explained, “but in the first week of the month we were in our last week campaigning and I walked the equivalent.

“I told people if they keep sponsoring me I would try to do an additional 50k, and run 50k.

“I had done a run for the SSPCA before at the Kelpies, it was the first 5k I had ever run properly timed after completing Couch to 5k, the BBC app.

“I was quite surprised to be able to do it, and for a good cause.”

Brian is prepared to brave all weathers for the charity, which he says is “close to his heart”.

He wants to shine a light on the vital work done by the SPCA in Scotland, as he feels it is often overshadowed by its “bigger neighbour” and UK wide equivalent.

“So much of the media focusses on the work of the RSPCA (the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals),” he said.

“The Scottish SPCA have to make it clear that they have their own organisation, they have a perception battle on their hands.

“They do so much for pets and for wildlife.”

The newly elected councillor hopes that his participation will inspire others to do the same.

“It is all about distance,” he continued, “you are only challenging yourself.

“If I keep enjoying it, I’ll keep doing it and will hopefully be able to do more local fundraisers and use my new found love of running.”

The Scottish SPCA provide support across the country, responding to reports of animals in need, as well as rehabilitating and rehoming pets.
