AN AWARD-WINNING West Fife company have launched what they have described as a "groundbreaking" resource for primary schools across Scotland.

The Beat Box, which was set up by long-time pals Laura Hodge and Kevin Guthrie, are aiming to provide comprehensive online tuition for kids of all ages – covering the entire music curriculum – through its 'McMusic' venture.

As well as offering schools an additional music resource, Laura and Kevin – who first met when they were pupils at Beath High School – aim to cover other subject areas through the delivery of music.

Laura, who is from Kelty, explained: "Having worked all over Scotland for several years now, a recurring theme we have noticed is that many teachers do not feel confident delivering music lessons.

"With so many cutbacks in this area, we plan to provide a varied and highly-affordable resource for schools of any size."

Co-founder Kevin commented: "Schools are very much looking for cross-curricular learning these days. Much of our material covers other parts of the curriculum, particularly history, something we are passionate about.

"At the moment, we are working flat-out developing new ideas and teaching resources so that the bank of lessons available will be regularly added to. There is only Laura and myself, so it is a mammoth task but one we are enjoying very much.

"We think we are offering something unique, with location filming and episodes featuring special guests. Early feedback from both teachers and children suggests that pupils are finding the material very engaging and different to anything else on offer."

The Beat Box, named as the most enterprising start-up company at the 2018 Fife Business Awards, aim to create music for primary schools that encourages and inspires pupils, as well as educating them through cross-curricular themes.
