A DUNFERMLINE heating firm is offering vulnerable people help with their heating.

RGM Heating Ltd was set up in 2020 by three childhood friends, with Graeme Robertson, 36, heading up the Community Heating Project scheme.

The initiative aims to help those struggling in West Fife by fixing broken boilers, replacing condemned boilers, or simply ensuring that their heating is working as efficiently as possible to keep bills down.

It is supported by Fife groups the Cottage Family Centre and Cosy Kingdom, who have been referring families to the service.

"One person hadn't been able to work for two years," Graeme said of the people he had already been able to help, "and another had terminal cancer and couldn't afford heating for six months.

"The business is very community-focused, we have been giving to charity since day one and we now plant trees for every install.

"When you see people struggling, and it is getting so much worse, it just breaks your heart, when you hear some of the stories you see how the need is really desperate."

Graeme, who is originally from Rosyth and now lives in Kelty, has set up the fund, run as a Community Interest Company, to allow RGM to complete the services for those referred by the charities.

"Our aim is to help everyone in Fife who needs our help and to ensure nobody must choose between feeding their families or heating their homes," he added.

"We feel that right now with the cost-of-living crisis and energy bills at frightening levels, now is the time to act.

"This year, with further energy bill increases expected, this winter is going to be one of the toughest in living memory and we want to have the Community Heating Project in full swing to help as many people and families as possible.

"Although we are only starting off with Fife, once everything is up and running, there is no reason why we can’t branch out and help other areas of Scotland that need our help."

They are now looking for more charities to get involved so that they can reach as many people as possible.
