THE peacock who was badly hurt during Monday night's break-in at the aviary in Pittencrieff Park is slowly recovering.

Louis was left with "numerous injuries" while one of the other birds, Malcolm, was killed in the attack.

There was CCTV footage and two youngsters, an 11-year-old and a 13-year-old, have now been traced by police with the older child being reported through the youth justice system.

Thankfully Louis is making progress and a gofundme page, set up to help cover costs of repairing the aviary, has raised an astonishing amount in a short space of time.

By this afternoon the sum had passed £13,200.

Joe Gilmartin, from the Peacocks of Pittencrieff Park group, sent in this photo and said: "Carlyn Cane is one of our lead volunteers and she has a special relationship with Louis.

"Louis sustained numerous injuries – his leg and neck in particular.

"This is Carlyn cradling Louis whilst Suzi freshens the dressing on his wounds."

Volunteer Suzi Ross also posted the photo on their Facebook page and said: "Just thought I would post something nice to smile about which we all need.

"It is Carlyn who is giving Louis his meds and cleaning his leg and neck.

"She is spending a lot of time with him, reassuring him he is safe and not all humans are bad.

"Louis is doing well, trying to walk which is a good sign, he is fighting.

"But still not out of the dark woods yet. I love this photo.

"The love between Carlyn and Louis just shines through.

"Massive thank you to everyone for all your fantastic support towards all the volunteers."
