A TALENTED group of West Fife gymnasts produced some top displays to bring a coveted trophy home to Scotland for the first time.

Members of Acrobay Gymnastics Club, based in Rosyth, travelled south of the border recently to compete in the Acro Inter-Regional finals competition in Southampton, and won the team prize for their country.

Youngsters from the club, situated in Primrose Lane, collected 13 gold, five silver and six bronze medals in a glittering haul, and those efforts, alongside the judges adding the top three scores of each region, allowed Scotland to collect the team trophy.

Acrobay's competitors ranged in age from eight to 15 and they enjoyed a gold rush, beginning with Chloe Osborne and Freya Walker, and Lainey McKilligan and Alana McClymont, who took top spot in the grade one and grade two women's pairs respectively.

Charlotte Ballantyne, Rebecca Howitt and Brodey Smith took grade two women's groups gold, as did Emma Tait, Caitlin Allan and Fallon Farrell, and Rosa Morrison, Poppy Pain and Belle Temple, in the grade five and youth women's groups respectively.

Silver medals were collected by Hannah Avery, Grace Cunningham and Orla Noble, in the grade two women's groups; and Kayla Ballantyne and Arabella Blackwood, in the grade three women's pairs; while Eva Rose Courtney, Isla Rourke and Roxie Kemp, and Claire Marshall, Neive Sinclair and Ellie Breach, won grade three and grade four women's groups' bronze respectively.

In addition, Clara Joyce, Elise Joyce and Poppy Campbell, and Rebecca Howitt and Alanna Hynd, finished fourth in the grade three women's groups, and grade four women's pairs.

Acrobay head coach Suzanne Fraser said: "We were chuffed to bits to win the trophy for Scotland for the first time in 10 years of competing at the tournament.

"Travelling the length of Britain to compete can be tiring for gymnasts and sometimes being so far from home ramps up their nerves. But you’d never have known by the confidence and grace they showed on the floor.

"Gymnasts who came second and third at the Scottish finals qualify for the Inter-Regional finals, so just having so many partnerships there was an achievement in itself. Medals are a huge achievement and a great boost – and the team trophy is the ultimate accolade.

"I know I say it often but I am immensely proud of all our gymnasts."

Following their Southampton success, members from Acrobay were also due to compete in Stoke-on-Trent at the British Championships.
