A MAN who found a 'live grenade' in Kincardine sent a photo to his pal before raising the alarm.

Euan Love, 22, was searching for fossils near the pier when his excavation took an unexpected turn after he uncovered the suspicious device.

Not knowing what to do, he sent a photo to a friend, who confirmed that he should contact the police.

"I was at the shoreline hunting for fossils," he told the Press, "I was having a nosey at a sewer drain and spotted it at the edge of the water.

"I didn't go anywhere near it of course, but I sent a photo to my friend who knows more about these things, then raised the alarm."

After calling emergency services at 10.30am, the Tesco worker was put through to the Coastguard service and waited near the spot for officials to arrive.

Police were then alerted at 3pm and rushed to the scene, where Euan showed them the potentially dangerous equipment.

"Because it was a bit of an odd location they asked me to stick around, there was a lot of confusion about access," he added.

"We didn't leave until 5.45pm, one of the guys took it away, I think it transpired not to be anything, but he took it away and said he was going to take a hammer to it."

Euan was joined by Police Scotland and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit at the site, while he said the nearby railway line was also closed by British Transport Police.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Officers were called to Station Road, Kincardine, around 3pm on Tuesday, 7 June, 2022 after an item was discovered.

"EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) attended and confirmed the item was not an explosive.

"There was no risk to the wider community."
